Akshaya tritiya is celebrated by Jains and Hindus together as it is their holy day. It is also known as Akha Teej and this is an auspicious day of the third Tithi of Sukula Paksha of the pan Indian month of Vaisakha. A Journey from Depth to Epitome

The process of diamond creation begins 100 miles underground where tremendous heat and pressure crystallize carbon into rough diamonds. Diamonds then reach the surface through a specific kind of volcanic eruption, called a kimberlite eruption. To reach diamonds at the bottom of kimberlite pipes rocks are blasted and pit-mining begins. Pit-mining is the most common way to recover diamonds. Open-pit mining is only used when diamonds are near the surface or covered by a thin layer of sand and gravel. Underground mining is the most complex form of diamond mining. And the method of underground mining used depends on the “nature, shape and size of the kimberlite deposit”. Diamonds are also mined from the seabed using horizontal and vertical marine mining. In horizontal mining a crawler uses flexible hoses on the ocean floor to bring diamonds to the surface. In vertical mining a large-diameter drill allows for greater depth and brings diamond-bearing gravel to the surface. Finally there’s alluvial mining which refers to diamonds that reach “their current resting place after being carried by wind and water down rivers over millions of years”. The first step in processing diamonds is comminution i.e. breaking the ore by crushing and milling. Once the ore has been crushed it is mixed with a “slurry made of finely ground ferrosilicon” of a particular density in a process called dense medium separation (DMS). Because diamonds repel water and are drawn to grease, the crushed is passed over a grease belt that the diamonds then stick to. They can also be identified under x-rays. Rough diamonds are measured and sorted before they are cut. Finally diamonds are polished and given specific shape and size as per the use.

The Feeling of Being Royal

Getting born to a royal family doesn’t mean that you will automatically inherit the qualities of a royal. Mere birth can’t ascertain the practices. To know your history is very different from living the history in the present times. And I learnt this basic fact of life in a very different way.

Pendants should be chosen to compliment the wearer’s outfit and should not distract your personality. Firstly a pendant should be suitable for the situation in which it will be worn. Age suitability is of less concern, since women of all ages are welcome in the world of fashion.
